In February 2025, Mara Osterburg assumed the role of project manager in the DASTAT project, succeeding in her previous position as a research assistant in the Department of Educational Trajectories and Employment at the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW). From 2016 to 2019, she successfully completed the Bachelor's degree programme in Social Sciences, followed by the Master's degree programme in Science and Society at Leibniz Universität Hannover from 2019 to 2021.

Abstract

This piece of research, entitled „Labor market segmentation and overqualification. An analysis of employment adequacy among PhDs“, examines the employment situation of doctoral graduates in Germany using segmentation theory approaches and to takes a critical look at the measurement of employment adequacy. Two questions are adressed: 1. how do segmentation theory indicators, especially the placement within different labor market segments, influence the probability that doctoral graduates are adequately employed? And 2. how do structural conditions of the labor market affect different levels of adequacy of doctoral graduates? The study refers to the data based on the PhD-panel 2014 from DZHW.
