The BeFHPro-project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and analyses the situation of candidate pools for professorships at universities of applied sciences (UAS). Its main research questions are
- whether appropriate candidates who could be appointed as professors at UAS are scarce and, if so,
- to what extent the different disciplines and fields at the UAS are affected by a lack of candidates and
- what are reasons for this situation.
With regard to successfully appointed professors, the project also strives to reveal central characteristics of their professional careers as well as the motives and reasons underlying their application for a professorship at a UAS.
While answering these questions, the project will pay attention to peculiarities of different scientific fields, the regions where UAS are located and corresponding labor markets apart from higher education institutions.
The research design comprises the following elements:
- analysis of data provided by the project „LiBerTas“ which is also concerned with different aspects of the recruitment of professors and can offer insight into recruitment procedures at UAS
- explorative expert interviews
- analyses of recruitment procedure files carried out by staff of the UAS who will receive an instructions manual and will be remunerated for their efforts/li>
- analyses of CV of recently appointed professors at UAS
- an online survey addressing recently appointed professors at AUS
A progress report to the Ministry (BMBF), the completion of a final report and the submission of an article to a research journal are also intended.
